a: water ~
b: magnet

What:

"To explain why water and oil do not mix, we will find out that water is like a magnet, but instead of magnetic north and south poles, it has plus and minus electrical poles. The effect is the same. The plus end of water is attracted to the negative end of a different water molecule. The plus end is where the two hydrogens attach to the oxygen atom. "

Phase Transitions.....

a: water ~
b: energy

What:

"For the most part, water is like energy: it is neither created nor destroyed. With the exception of a few chemical reactions that create and use water, most water cycles around the Earth simply change the form of the water. For example, one water droplet in New York can condense, become part of a cloud, and then fall from the sky as rain or snow in Chicago, IL. From Chicago it might travel through waterways down the entire length of the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico and end up in the ocean for years."

Inner Water

a: water ~
b: mirror

What:

"Finally, calm water is like a mirror and gives a picture of all that is around. Conversely troubled waters only reflect the turmoil within. When a person approaches a problem with calm and composure then like the reflection on calm water he sees everything. So also when a problem causes turmoil then like the troubled water on confusion is seen. "

a: Water cycle ~
b: a simple distillation process

What:

"Water cycle is like a simple distillation process. In laboratory, the heat source heats the water in a glass vessel. Water evaporates and travel through a cooled condenser tube. Cold passage turns the vapor to water droplets falling down to collection jar. The end is a cleaner water. Far cleaner than it was before. "

a: water cycle ~
b: wearing glasses in a steamy bathroom

What:

This will make sense to people who have worn glasses in the shower or in a steamy bathroom. If you run a shower with hot water(evaporate) steam is produced, especially if the bathroom is small and the door is closed. If it's cold and your glasses are on, the steam will condense on your glasses(rain). Try it sometime. This process illustrates two main aspect of the water cycle, evaporation and condensation.

b: a big pressure cooker

What:

"Your water heater is like a big pressure cooker. Water is heated in a steel tank. Steam is produced which increases the pressure in the tank. On the top of your water heater is a pressure release valve. Should your water heater thermostat malfunction and the temperature build up to a dangerous level, this valve will open and let the pressure escape."

b: the Holy Spirit

What:

"God's grace is the hand which adjusts the switch. It is up to you whether you cooperate and allow the switch to be turned to "max heat". The water heater is like the Holy Spirit, firing us up with the love of God. If we don't cooperate with grace and allow our switches to be moved accordingly, we won't become fired up! If we close ourselves off to God and His love, we will simply be cold water on a winter morning. No one really likes cold showers in the winter! "

a: water channel ~
b: a passage

What:

" A water channel is like a passage dug into the ground to send water from one location to another for farmers to use to water their crops. Water levels in channels can change very quickly. Heavy gates let water in and out of the channels causing the water levels to rise and fall. The sides of water channels are often very steep and algae present in the water can make the sides of the water channels slippery. Just like dams and weirs, there
are also pipes under water in channels that cannot be seen from the surface."

a: water conservation ~
b: shortage of fuel

What:

"What is not well understood is the difference between water conservation and water efficiency. Conservation is like telling a motorist there is a shortage of fuel so he or she has to take fewer trips, whereas efficiency is like encouraging motorists to buy more fuel-efficient cars. In our view, water efficiency is the ethic we must embrace. Water conservation, on the other hand, is something we must do when there is a limited water supply. Extending the emergency regulations only perpetuates this fiction."

a: buffered water solution ~
b: carpeted room

What:

"You can think of pure water as a very echoing room. Every small sound bounces around and sounds very loud. By contrast, a buffered water solution is like a room with all the floors and walls covered in carpet - small sounds get swallowed up by the carpet and are harder to notice, but you can still hear large sounds."

California Water

a: Los angeles water supply ~
b: San Francisco water supply

What: Here's my opinion of the water quality of both cities; very good. The water out of these taps is a good as bottled water or even better. Both cities get most of their water from the Sierra runoff. San Francisco gets water from Hetch Hetchy which is a vast granite basin that doesn't seem to affect the water quality. Los Angeles gets water from the Owens Valley which collects the run off from the south-eastern part of the Sierras. Again, this is another granite filled basin which doesn't affect the water quality that much. Contrast this with the water from the Colorado river. This basin is ~ 2,000 miles of sandstone. Sandstone is mostly calcium carbonate, this gets dissolved in the river and thus into the water supply. The Colorado river is the water supply for much of Orange country and San Diego. The taste of the water is terrible. It takes like dirt, but I suspect it is much healthier 'cause of all the dissolved minerals. In fact, the joke is: Why are Californians so laid back? It's the lithium in the water.
