a: Thermal energy ~
b: sound of popcorn in a glass bottle

What:

Thermal energy, perceived as warmth to human touch, is caused by the vibration of molecules of an object. You can't directly feel the molecules vibrating;you feel the effect. Now think about a glass bottle of un-popped popcorn. If you shake it and the popcorn hits the inside of the bottle, it makes noise. This is somewhat like the molecules vibrating and creating perceptible thermal energy.

METAMIA is a free database of analogy and metaphor. Anyone can contribute or search. The subject matter can be anything. Science is popular, but poetry is encouraged. The goal is to integrate our fluid muses with the stark literalism of a relational database. Metamia is like a girdle for your muses, a cognitive girdle.
