stabilizing selection

a: Stabilizing selection ~
b: Tortoise

In relation to time, stabilizing selection is a situation in which a phenotype changes very slowly. This is somewhat like the Tortoise in the fable. Slow and steady change tend to produce beneficial outcomes or at least non disruptive change. Disruptive selection would be akin to the Hare in this scenario.

METAMIA is a free database of analogy and metaphor. Anyone can contribute or search. The subject matter can be anything. Science is popular, but poetry is encouraged. The goal is to integrate our fluid muses with the stark literalism of a relational database. Metamia is like a girdle for your muses, a cognitive girdle.
