a: Spectroscope ~
b: telescope with a prism built in
What: This instrument can do two things. It allows an observer to see things that are distant. And it has an internal prism that fractionates the white light entering the telescope into it's component parts, a spectrum. The fractionated light can be used to identify the chemical nature of the object in view.

METAMIA is a free database of analogy
and metaphor. Anyone can contribute or search.
The subject matter can be anything.
Science is popular, but poetry is encouraged.
The goal is to integrate our fluid muses with
the stark literalism of a relational database.
Metamia is like a girdle for your muses,
a cognitive girdle.
