It's All Over 'til The Next Round

a: Period-punctuation ~
b: last call bartender

What: "The period is like the last call bartender. All is done." The rest is a comparison between a nun and punctuation.

Punctuation As Condiment

a: Period-punctuation ~
b: ketchup

What: "E is for exclamation points--the most overused of the punctuation marks, in my opinion. If a comma is salt (good with everything), and a period is like ketchup (again, a hearty work-a-day character), the exclamation point is like wasabi. I don't want a peanut butter and wasabi sandwich, get it? Be a little more judicious with your punctuation."

a: Period-punctuation ~
b: a bullet hole

What: "a period is like a bullet hole, while a comma more resembles a spermatazoon, the little dudes that make us all what we are. i think of the comma as a lackadaisical sperm, like the one that ends up entangled in the hairs of the labia majora and shouts, in his little comma voice, "hey, where did everyone go"? no chance at the prize, but cute as a little button."

a: Period-punctuation ~
b: a bated breath

What: "That all forms of storytelling have a "beat" is a pet theory of mine. When I edit books, I often edit pacing, following the flow of words so that the story is easier to read. A period is like a bated breath, a single instance before the writer allows you to continue forward. There's power in grammar and punctuation. A dynamic in sentence structure and layout."

METAMIA is a free database of analogy and metaphor. Anyone can contribute or search. The subject matter can be anything. Science is popular, but poetry is encouraged. The goal is to integrate our fluid muses with the stark literalism of a relational database. Metamia is like a girdle for your muses, a cognitive girdle.
