ionization

n=3

a: ionization ~
b: a transition

What:

"In the simplest case, ionization is like a transition between an initial state, consisting of a neutral atom, and a final state, consisting of a positive ion and a free electron."

a: Ionization energy ~
b: electron greed

What:

"Ionization energy is like "electron greed".How badly does the atom what to hold on to its electron?Lower I.E. means it is easier (takes less energy) to remove an electron from the atom and create an ion. Higher I.E. means it is more difficult (takes more energy) to remove and electron from the atom and create an ion."

The more greedy the atom is for the electron, the more energy it will take to remove it.

Ionization Energy

a: Ionization Energy ~
b: Taking candy from a baby

What:

Ionization energy is like taking candy from a baby. If a baby REALLY wants that candy, it will hold on tight and it will take someone else a lot of energy to take it away. If the baby doesn't want the candy that much, it won't take much energy for someone to take it away.

Lets say the BABY=ATOM and the CANDY=ELECTRON

An atom has a HIGH ionization energy if it takes a lot of energy to remove an electron. An atom has a LOW ionization energy if its easy to take an electron away.

METAMIA is a free database of analogy and metaphor. Anyone can contribute or search. The subject matter can be anything. Science is popular, but poetry is encouraged. The goal is to integrate our fluid muses with the stark literalism of a relational database. Metamia is like a girdle for your muses, a cognitive girdle.
