interphase

n=1

a: Interphase ~
b: an intermission during a movie

What: "Interphase is like an intermission during a movie; it is the time between cell divisions. And much like during a movie intermission, a great deal of activity occurs during this phase. Interphase comprises most of the process known as the cell cycle. During interphase, the cell enlarges and carries out the metabolic tasks such as taking in food and giving off wastes, replicating chromosomes, and producing organelles. This is the longest phase."

METAMIA is a free database of analogy and metaphor. Anyone can contribute or search. The subject matter can be anything. Science is popular, but poetry is encouraged. The goal is to integrate our fluid muses with the stark literalism of a relational database. Metamia is like a girdle for your muses, a cognitive girdle.
