frequency hopping

n=2

a: Frequency hopping ~
b: changing radio stations constantly

What: "Frequency hopping is like changing radio stations constantly; but both the transmitter and receiver know where to tune in to. Spread Spectrum is where you share out the power in the carrier over a wider band, it may take up the whole of the FM band and apear as a bit of noise on your normal radio station. The idea is that if you don't know it exists you can't find it, and if you do find it you can't keep track as it keeps jumping to a different station! The real trick is to sync both transmitter and receiver to ensure an efficacious system."

a: Frequency hopping ~
b: depositing your money in many banks

What:

"From a system perspective, Bluetooth also articulates a goal for hassle-free installation or even no installation. Engineering-wise, Bluetooth uses fast frequency hopping to alleviate certain problems. Frequency hopping is like depositing your money in many banks, to protect against losing all when something bad happens."

METAMIA is a free database of analogy and metaphor. Anyone can contribute or search. The subject matter can be anything. Science is popular, but poetry is encouraged. The goal is to integrate our fluid muses with the stark literalism of a relational database. Metamia is like a girdle for your muses, a cognitive girdle.
