energy

n=20

a: Energy ~
b: Breast Milk

What: "My theory is that when we use our energy actively at the same times every day, that signals to our bodies and spirits to produce more energy. If we use our energy passively, watching tv, sitting on a computer, being still at the same times every day, that signals to our bodies and spirits to conserve energy."

a: Energy ~
b: perfect money

What: "Thus, when an object does work on another object, the energy can only be converted and/or transferred, but never lost or generated anew. In a sense, energy is like perfect money - transferred but always preserved, assuming no inflation or deflation!"

Energy Production As A Binary Decsion

a: Energy ~
b: the 30 years war

What: "Sigh. The Thirty Years' War was, at heart (and whole libraries have been written about the causes so allow me to simplify) about "who rules"? This is a binary decision: if you do I don't, if I do you don't." A discussion stating that energy production is not a black/white, yes/no, this or that type of proposition.

Energy Is Like A Wind

a: Energy ~
b: a wind

What: "Energy is like a wind, it is everywhere, all around you, everything you see, hear, touch, taste, sense is energy being expressed in the solid world of forms. Energy is always freely moving and seems like a wind in a sea of energy."

a: Energy ~
b: a synthyzied concept

What: "What this 'qualitative' equation tells us is that energy is like the term 'running horse', a noun and a verb synthesized into a single word."

a: Energy ~
b: water

What:

"The great unification, Albert Einstein's dream, will never be possible without including the study of conscience. Religion comes from religare (the return to unity), Yoga means the whole, and all religions look for that "Whole Is One." Science and religion look for unity, the whole, and the conscience of light. Energy is like water; it takes the form of the bottle that contains it. As long as we remain unaware of the energy, we will carry on mistaking it with its containers. To those "bottles" we give names such as: emptiness, depression, loneliness, silence, etc. Nevertheless, energy is a spiral, a vortex that should only be felt and enjoyed, but we leave it frozen in "bottles" by giving it one of those pathological names."

Gravity Energy And Stuff......

a: Energy density ~
b: pressure under water on a rock

What: "the source of gravity is not mass. Mass is inert, passive and subject to force from the energy density of free space. Energy density is like pressure under water on a rock. The pressure is equal and opposite to energy it has displaced. Matter is constantly seeking it's own level just like water. That is the level where all gravitational potential is equal throughout all of space. Matter displaces energy just like water. Two bodies gravitate because energy field equilibrium is upset by neighbor body. As bodies get closer, the force increases because energy field displaced is inversely proportional to distance squared. and they accelerate according to Newton's law. I call it the "energy displacement theory". Matter displaces energy. Matter has no physical meaning. It is merely "energy not" to use a boolean term."

a: energy and mass ~
b: relation between a building's height and its shadow

What:

"The relation between energy and mass is like the relation between a
building's height and its shadow's length. The shadow is a projection
of the building, and the mass is a projection of the energy."

Chemical Bonding That Is.....

a: High energy bond ~
b: compressed spring

What: A compressed spring has a high level of potential energy. It's like the ball on top of a hill, it has the capacity to release it's energy and do some work. This idea is transferable to chemistry and chemical bonds. Some covalent bonds have the capacity to hydrolyze and release their energy to help build, as in the case of a cell, macromolecular structures. Some examples include: the phosphoanhydride bond in ATP, the thioester bond in acetyl CoA and other phosphate ester bonds. A molecule that acts like a tightly coiled spring it is.

b: playing cards in a casino

What:

"Energy is always somewhat wasted when it is transformed from one type to another, you can't even break even. Energy conversion is like playing cards in a casino, and entropy is the house handle, you dig? It's depressing when you think about it."

b: golf balls

What:

"That threshold energy is near the ultraviolet part of the electromagnetic spectrum, thousands of times more energetic than cell phone radio waves. UV, X-rays and gamma rays cause cancer. These photons are like golf balls, whereas radio photons are like cotton balls. You can throw millions of cotton balls against a window; it just won't break."

b: Hank Aaron

What: "Conservation (of energy) is like Hank Aaron. Sure, steady, reliable, long- term, effective - and unexciting. In a time of Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle and Reggie Jackson, Aaron holds the home-run record; but unlike them, he endured years of relative obscurity. It was not until he overtook Babe Ruth that most people noticed."

a: binding energy of helium ~
b: ball sitting on the ground

What:

"Imagine it like this. The binding energy of tritium and deuterium is like a ball sitting on a table. The binding energy of helium is like that same ball sitting on the ground. Lifting the ball requires more energy if you have to lift it from the floor. Similarly dropping the ball gives you more energy if you drop it to the floor than you do to the table. Hence why fusing d-t together gives you energy, it is like dropping the ball from the table to the ground."

METAMIA is a free database of analogy and metaphor. Anyone can contribute or search. The subject matter can be anything. Science is popular, but poetry is encouraged. The goal is to integrate our fluid muses with the stark literalism of a relational database. Metamia is like a girdle for your muses, a cognitive girdle.
