contemporary america

n=2

a: contemporary America ~
b: a koan

What:

Mr. Prothero suggests that contemporary America is like what Zen Buddhism calls a koan , a paradoxical riddle. "That riddle is not, as Ms. Eck's subtitle goes, 'How a "Christian Country" Has Become the World's Most Religiously Diverse Nation.' It is instead how America has managed to become both a Christian country and a multireligious society at the same time."

a: Contemporary America ~
b: scifi movie where the blob won

What:

"Our Byzantine government bureaucracy that has grown like a cancer in the USA since World War Two, and in some senses since the Civil War, it's way to large and diffuse to be threatened by any one foe anymore. Contemporary America is like a scifi movie where the blob won, most people in most urban areas have been assimilated, and the few that are still fighting are just more food for the blob."

METAMIA is a free database of analogy and metaphor. Anyone can contribute or search. The subject matter can be anything. Science is popular, but poetry is encouraged. The goal is to integrate our fluid muses with the stark literalism of a relational database. Metamia is like a girdle for your muses, a cognitive girdle.
