Congress As Mexican Army
a: Congress ~
b: a Mexican Army
What: "The Party in Congress is like a Mexican army; everyone in it takes care of himself. When the enemy appears he may fight, run or parley as he thinks best. This is the kind of army that can be overwhelmed by a boy beating a dishpan."

Congress As Marionette
a: Congress ~
b: a marionette
What: "Congress is like a marionette - with strings that make it dance. The "strings" are tangled with competing masters, so it's no wonder the dance is mostly futile movements - but entertaining nonetheless."

Congress As American Corporation
a: Congress ~
b: an american corporation
What: This is a stunningly good take on how Congress works AND how a contemporary corporate organization works. This article describes the passive aggressive power plays that exist in many public and private organizations. "People continue to plot their next move to gin up a new crisis to make them look good and their rivals look bad, because the company's interests don't matter as much as their own. I've seen times when talented people are pulled off projects for some trumped up emergency, in an attempt to railroad the other manager's project, and thus look better."

METAMIA is a free database of analogy and metaphor. Anyone can contribute or search. The subject matter can be anything. Science is popular, but poetry is encouraged. The goal is to integrate our fluid muses with the stark literalism of a relational database. Metamia is like a girdle for your muses, a cognitive girdle.
