What: One possibility for the origin of carbon based life is the Clay Model. Conceptually, the idea is that inorganic matter, clay, acted as a replication platform for the first organic molecules. See the link for a brief explanation. So in some loopy sense Ceramics is like Evolutionary reciprocity, in that, clay gave form to the first primitive carbon molecules the same way Ceramic Artists now give form to clay objects.
