"Its a problem with American stereotyping. American employers expect men to look like pitbull dogs, yet with demeanor of an indentured servant. After all, management likes "yes-men" who won't give them any competition. Well groomed men have far more self-esteem and give the aire of independence and control, that seems to be threatening to management. Seen this too many times, particularly working in government."
