What: In the Season 1 box set there is an interview between director Peter Bogdanovich and David Chase the creator of the Sopranos. At 15:30 in the interview Chase explains, in general, the Sopranos is a metaphor for the selfishness of and in contemporary American culture. As he explains, this culture and the individuals make it up, have become so selfish, that even a Mob guy can't take it. And thus Tony Soprano needs to start seeing a therapist to deal with the issues of his work and family.
