Notice,
however,

we

not
say

line."
We
say,
rather,
"the
shortest
line
between
two
points."
As
in
geometry,
the
distance
between
two
sets
of
points
may
vary
greatly;
the
important thing
is
not
that
the
line
be
short,
but
that
it
be
straight.
