What: Petroleum is the power commodity for the decedents of the confederacy, who at this moment reside in the great state of Texas. As someone once said, history may not repeat itself but it certainly rhymes. The parallels between Cotton and petroleum are outstanding. For their respective times they are both feeder commodities. From what I've seen, there is conscious and systematic effort to increase political and cultural power through the control of both of these commodities. US citizens, myself, should be concerned about this. This is not just robber barons, it is robber Barons from Texas, who, out of revenge for loosing the Civil War are trying to assert a degree of power over the Union. If you wonder why the US has done very little to get off oil you only need look to the Southerners. To this day they are still aching over the destruction of their agrarian civilization by the UNION. Controlling a basic commodity, such as oil, and sticking it to everyone is type of historical retribution. The depths of this animosity should not be underestimated. The stupid Northern liberals should have figured this out a long time ago. The control of oil is not just an economic issue, it is also a cultural issue. That culture issue being the lingering resentment of Destruction of Southern Agrarian culture, not just the abolition of slavery.
