a: Metaphase ~
b: a tug of war

What: "The metaphase is like a tug of war. The chromosomes get together midway between the two ends where the spindle tapers. This equatorial plane marks where the whole cell will divide. The ends of the spindle are the poles there the chromatids will migrate to. The chromatids are connected to the spindle fibers at a place called the centromeres."
