What: An epitope is the portion of an an antibody that gives that antibody specificity. Antibodies are often compared to a lock and key mechanism. One key formation fits a particular lock. But the portion of the Antibody/key that gives that specificity is the epitope which typically is small portion of the binding site of that antibody.
