Clichy-sous-Bois

a: Clichy-sous-Bois ~
b: The South Chicago of France

What: I was watching a BBC show about French civil unrest. There has a episode about the Clichy suburb of Paris. When they described it as having riots, minorities and dilapidated public housing, South Chicago came to mind. South Chicago is in a similar state. The civil unrest is long gone, but it still has huge public housing projects that were built in the 60's as part of LBJ's Great Society project. Most of the area was never really rebuild after the riots in the 1960s. It was surprising that the French have an even worse minority assimilation problem than the United States.
